The Institute of Psychology of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a research institution that is part of the section of philosophy , psychology , sociology and law at the Department of Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences . It was founded in 1971 . On the basis of IP RAS there is a faculty of psychology at the State Academic University of Humanities .

The institute employs more than 20 doctors of science and more than 100 candidates of science .
History
In 1945, at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR under the leadership of the deputy director, corresponding member. The USSR Academy of Sciences S. L. Rubinstein created the Sector of Philosophical Problems of Psychology. In 1949, during the campaign against cosmopolitanism, Rubinstein was removed from the leadership of the Sector, and subsequently the sector was dissolved for a short time: on August 17, 1951, the structure of the institute was changed at a meeting of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences (protocol No. 60, resolution 527), and there was no longer a psychological sector in it. Five years later, the unit was reorganized and restored: on September 30, 1955, a psychology sector was created within the institute by order of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences No. 492 [1] . From 1955 until his death, Rubinstein led the sector, and in 1960-1972 - E. V. Shorokhova [2] .
Nevertheless, the institute was formally founded by a decision of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences on December 16, 1971 [3] . In the spring and summer of 1972, new units were created, and researchers were recruited. In the fall of 1972, the scientific division from the Institute of Philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the sector of philosophical problems of psychology under the leadership of E.V. Shorokhova, transferred to the Institute of Psychology in its entirety. Since 1972, active scientific activity has developed in the new institute: seminars began, at which employees of all laboratories spoke and discussed, the first publications were being prepared. At the same time, construction and repair work also took place: with the participation of all employees, redevelopment of the premises took place, experimental complexes were being prepared.
The history of the Institute of Psychology is associated with such names as a corresponding member. USSR Academy of Sciences, prof. B. F. Lomov (creator and first director of the Institute from 1971 to 1989 ); Corresponding Member RAS, prof. A. V. Brushlinsky (director from 1989 to 2002 ); the first laureate of the gold medal named after V. M. Bekhterev , Honored Scientist of Russia , founder of the scientific school on the psychology of creative thinking and intuition prof. Y. A. Ponomarev ; creator of subjective psychophysics prof. C.V. Bardin ; Corresponding Member APN USSR, a famous psychophysiologist prof. V. D. Nebylitsyn , a famous neurophysiologist , creator of a scientific school prof. V. B. Shvyrkov , psychologist and organizer of science prof. V.N.Druzhinin , the famous social psychologist M.I. Bobnev and others.
In 2002-2017, the director of the institute was Acad. A. L. Zhuravlev . Since 2017, the duties of director have been performed by a corresponding member. RAS D.V. Ushakov .
There is a publishing house “Institute of Psychology RAS” at the institute. Since 1980, the Psychological Journal has been published (founded by B. F. Lomov). The scientific base of the Institute includes more than 20 organizations and societies.
In memory of B.F. Lomov, a memorial plaque was installed on the Institute building.
