Silver and bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in Mexico City (1968) and Munich (1972). Six-time world record holder and nine-time European record holder. Three-time European champion (1966, 1970). 15-time champion of the USSR (1962-1973). 27-time record holder of the USSR. Champion of Europe among veterans of 1999 and bronze medalist of the European Veteran Championship of 2001 at a distance of 100 m breaststroke.

She started swimming at the age of 10, a year later she was invited to the Sports School of Sevastopol. Until 1970, she trained with the trainer Elena Lukyanovna Alekseenko [6] , for this period her main sports achievements came, and then with Vitaly Ivanovich Sorokin . Prozumenshchikova fulfilled the norm of the first adult category in 1961, a year later - the norm of the USSR master of sports [7] . Since 1962, it represented the Armed Forces [5] of Sevastopol (until 1966), and in 1967-1973, Moscow [8] .
Honored Master of Sports of the USSR in breaststroke (1964), Olympic champion (1964, Tokyo ), Olympic medalist (1968, Mexico City and 1972, Munich ), European champion (1966, 1970), multiple champion of the USSR (1963-1972) at different distances.
At a distance of 200 m breaststroke Galina Prozumenshchikova four times set a world record. First, on April 11, 1964, at a USSR-Great Britain match in Blackpool with a score of 2: 47.7, she broke the record ( GDR ), set three years earlier, and then improved that result on May 17, 1964 at a USSR-GDR match in Berlin (2: 45.4), September 12, 1965 in Groningen (2: 45.3) and August 22, 1966 at the European Championships in Utrecht (2: 40.8) [9] . And on July 17, 1966 in Leningrad, she set a world record in swimming breaststroke at a distance of 100m (1: 15.7) [10] .
Galina Prozumenschikova - a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University (1976) [8] , since 1980 she worked as a trainer in the Sports School of Swimming and Diving CSKA [11] .
She lived in Moscow. She died after a long illness at the 67th year of life on July 19, 2015 [12] .
She was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery [13] .
