Brief - lower straight (flying) sail on the front mast, serving for tail winds [1] .
The brief is tied to the brief-rayu, which rises on the spot in the brief-halyard; this is done on single-mast ships and lugers, in the same place where the fore-ray is constant, the brief is tied to the ray only during the time of need, for which it rises to the ray at the briefing-pride, and then becomes attached; at the same pride, after the need has passed, the briefings descend onto the deck [2] .
In case of a volatile briocche or cleaning, the briquettes descend and set almost upright or along the mast, or clings to the shrouds, but in any case the lower end rests against either the deck or the side. For stretching, i.e. productions, serve as briefs-shkoty, or, in abbreviated form, fok-shkota [2] .
