Saint Julian from Lake Horta and his brother, Saint Julius, a priest, were born on the island of Aegina , Greece in the 4th century . Both brothers were educated in Athens .

Then they went to Lombardy, on the shores of the small Lake Orta. They founded more than a hundred temples and chapels in the Lake Lago Maggiore region , but only two of them have confirmed paleochristian temples: the Basilica of St. Julius ( Horta San Giulio ) and the Church of St. Lawrence in Gozzano .

The veneration of saints is preserved on the shores of Lake Orta and Lake Lago Maggiore. The current Lake Horta in ancient times was called Cusio . In the Middle Ages it began to be called the lake of St. Giulio.

Also on January 7, St. Julian of Cagliari is commemorated.
