Thunar is a file manager for the Xfce working environment , which, since Xfce 4.4, replaced the previously used Xffm [2] [3] [4] . The Thunar interface is very similar to the Nautilus interface, the standard GNOME file manager. Previously, Thunar had the name Filer , but it was renamed “Thunar” due to name conflicts [5] . Thunar is designed with high performance and user-friendliness, as well as support for the standards stated at freedesktop.org . The functionality of Thunar can be expanded with an advanced plugin system.

In terms of capabilities, Thunar is in no way inferior to its competitors and has the following functions:
- Drag'n'Drop support;
- View network file storages when connected via WebDAV . At the same time, an address of the form "davs: //example.com/" is entered into the address bar of Thunar. To connect via WebDAV, separate corresponding programs are required, for example, neon , davfs2 , cadaver , Gigolo_ (program) ;
- Support for bookmarks that are displayed on the panel;
- Integration with SVN and GIT using the appropriate plug-in;
- Displays thumbnails of graphic and video files;
- Automounting of connected media;
- Change access and file owners;
- Display the speed of copying files (added in version 1.6).
- Bulk rename files without using regular expressions .
Plugins
For Thunar, there are several basic plugins that extend its functionality [6] .
- Thunar-vfs - to work with a virtual file system ;
- Thunar-archive-plugin - add items to the context menu: "Extract here", "Extract to" (for archives) or "Create archive" (for files and folders);
- Thunar-media-tags-plugin - displaying ID3 tags of audio files;
- Thunar-volman - for working with removable media ;
- Thunar Dropbox - add several items to the context menu for files in the sync folder with Dropbox , including copying the public link to the file to the clipboard;
- Thunar gtkhash - display different types of hash in the file properties;
- Thunar vcs - integration with SVN and GIT.

Thunar provides an API for third-party developers:
- Thunar-vfs is a cross-platform API for high-level file system operations.
- "Thunarx" is a library for creating extensions for the file manager itself.
Thunar can also be expanded by writing scripts to be placed in the context menu for various file types.
