Mazurmovich, Boris Nikolaevich

Born in Kiev in the family of a teacher. He studied at the Kiev gymnasium. In 1921 he entered the Institute of Public Education, after which in 1926 he was recommended to graduate school at the Department of Invertebrate Zoology of Kiev National University. T. Shevchenko under the guidance of Professor M. M. Voskoboinikov. Since 1935 he worked at the Department of Invertebrate Zoology of the University of Kiev. Assistant (1935-1951), associate professor (1951-1973), professor (since 1973) of the department. Student of academician A.P. Markevich . He defended his thesis in 1950 on the topic “Parasitic Amphibian Worms in the Neighborhood of Kiev, Their Relations with the Hosts in the External Environment”. Doctoral dissertation - "The development of zoology in Ukraine" (1969).

He proposed the introduction of field practice for students of the Faculty of Biology at Kiev University (introduced in 1936). He headed student expeditions in Ukraine and to other regions of the USSR (White Sea, Central Asia, Far East).

Field of research: invertebrate zoology, parasitology, history of biology. He was engaged in the study of amphibian parasites of various regions of Ukraine. The author of a number of monographs on the history of the development of biology in Ukraine, textbooks and study guides on zoology. He studied the development of the main zoological disciplines in the USSR. He studied the land, freshwater and marine fauna, studied the contribution of Ukrainian scientists to the development of animal taxonomy and zoogeography, work on functional morphology, paleozoology and phylogeny, zooparasitology and ecology. He was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the USSR Academy of Sciences for a series of studies on the history of zoology in Ukraine (1970).
