The name Shaikashka means "land of shaikash." The Shaikashis were a special kind of Austrian army that moved in narrow, long boats, known as the "gang." These military forces operated on the Danube , Tisza , Sava and Marosha .

Shaikashka, as part of the border fortification , was founded in 1763. At the beginning, the population of the region was made up exclusively of Serbs , who were brave and experienced warriors. Shaykashi participated in many battles against the Turks and their participation was very important.

In 1852, the Shaikash battalion was transformed into the Titel Infantry Battalion. This military battalion was disbanded in 1873, and the region was registered with the Bach-Bodrog Komitat .

Today, Shaikashka is mainly an agro-cultural region, with a well-developed food industry. Residents of the region have not forgotten their famous past.
