Prewar Biography
Mykola Marinchenko was born on June 20, 1912 in the Chernyanka settlement of the Chernyanskaya volost of the Novy Oskol district of the Kursk province (now Belgorod region ), in the family of the Ukrainian peasant Danila Marinchenko.
The oldest child in the family, Nikolai from childhood was looking for ways to help parents feed the family. According to the recollections of his mother, who lived a long life and died only in the 1990s, Kolya was a very enterprising and hard-working teenager. In addition, he was a good singer and dancer, but had an explosive character and, not wanting to put up with injustice, he always rebuffed offenders. After graduating from seven grades of secondary school, he worked on a collective farm named after the 17th Party Congress, but due to his low salary he left for the mines of Donbass , where he worked as a slaughterer and then as a ten's manager.
From 1933 to 1937, Marinchenko served in the Red Army , where he rose to the rank of sergeant. After demobilization, Nikolai Marinchenko returned home to Chernyanka, but soon went to work in Moscow , where he worked as a construction technician.
On August 2, 1937, Marinchenko was arrested on charges of hooliganism, resistance to government officials, and abuse of power or official position. On March 16, 1938, Marinchenko was sentenced to 10 years in a forced labor camp and was transferred to Ukhtpechlag , where he worked as a construction technician on the construction of the Ukhta-Krutaya road [1] .
Participation in the Great Patriotic War
On August 31, 1942, Marinchenko was prematurely released and re-drafted by the Ukhta Military Commissariat of the Komi ASSR into the army. Since July 1942, Marinchenko took part in hostilities, fought near Leningrad and on the Kursk Bulge [2] .
On July 12, 1943, in a battle southwest of the village of Vyazhi-Zarechye, the Oryol Region, the platoon commander of the 457th Infantry Regiment of the 129th Infantry Division, Lieutenant Marinchenko, with a group of fighters, penetrated the rear of the enemy, causing panic in his ranks. Having taken up a circular defense , a platoon of Marinchenko simultaneously cut off the Germans' withdrawal path and set up an ambush for suitable enemy reinforcements. While the main forces of the battalion fought in trenches, a platoon of Marinchenko fought against the enemy’s reserves from the village of Bolshoy Malinovets . Destroying the enemy, the battalion entered the battle for the dominant height above the terrain, where the enemy was entrenched with two 75-mm guns. Sneaking in from the right flank, Marinchenko with his platoon struck at the German calculations with automatic rifles, taking the enemy to flight. In that battle, Lieutenant Marinchenko personally killed 57 German soldiers and officers, but he himself was mortally wounded [3] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 27, 1943, for high courage, heroism and skillful fighting, Lieutenant Marinchenko Nikolai Danilovich was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Golden Star medal and the Order of Lenin .
He was buried in the village of Grachevka, Zalegoshchensky district, Oryol region .
