Biography

Claudia Kantsyreva was born into a serf family in St. Petersburg on February 25 ( March 9 ), 1847 . In 1855 she received freestyle and was soon admitted to the St. Petersburg Theater School .

She began to appear on stage in small ballet parties while still a student, and in 1861 her work in the ballet fragment of the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila , the press first noted a novice dancer, still a pupil of the school.

In 1866, she completed her studies and was accepted into the St. Petersburg ballet troupe of the imperial theaters on the role of a demi-characteristic dancer. She made her debut in the role of Lisa in “ Vain Precaution ”, where P. A. Gerdt became her partner.

The very next year after she entered the ballet stage, choreographer Arthur Saint-Leon entrusts her with the role of the Golden Fish in his new ballet, The Golden Fish , to Puni's music. Ballerina Ekaterina Ottovna Wazem in her memoir, Notes of the Ballerina of the St. Petersburg Bolshoi Theater. 1867-1884. " [1] [2] recalled this production: the ballet was staged specifically for the Italian guest performer G. Salvioni in the main part of Gali, but another dancer, Claudia Kantsyreva in the part of the Golden Fish, was noted with modern criticism. However, the play itself was considered by the critics to be a failure, which Ekaterina Vazem supports in her book: "... the audience seemed not to like him very much, and the hall was empty during the days of his performances." [2] And the ballet was soon removed from the repertoire.

After 1870, the ballerina was often sick, which led to disruption or replacement of performances - and the management of the imperial theaters highly disapproved of this. As a result, Klavdia Kantsyreva was transferred from the soloists to the corps de ballet , and in 1880 she was retired due to illness. Nothing is known about her future fate.
