History
Formed in February 1945 in the area of Give - Horsens - Aarhus ( Jutland ) on the basis of parts of the 233rd reserve tank division and reserves of the 2nd military district . At first, the division was called the “ Battle Group of the Holstein Tank Division ” and was under the command of the commander of the 233rd reserve tank division Max Fremeray . The Holstein division included only 45 tanks and 80 armored personnel carriers: several times less than in the usual Wehrmacht tank division.
The division was urgently thrown into the February attack on Stargard ; after the defeat, she defended Kohlberg and escaped from the encirclement at the last moment. Later, as part of the 3rd Panzer Army, it held the western shore of the Oder north of Stettin . At that moment, only 18 tanks and 20-25 armored personnel carriers remained in the division. A few days later the main part of the division became part of the 18th Panzer Grenadier Division , and the headquarters went to Lauenburg , where the Clausewitz Panzer Division was formed on its basis. Some of the smaller divisions of the division returned to Denmark as part of the 233rd reserve tank division.
