Wrestling career

Burke was coached by former professional wrestler Soulman Alex G and Norman Smiley. At the beginning of his career, Burke worked in many independent promotions (including in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA)), where he won many champion titles in individual competitions. In 2005, he signed a contract with WWE and was sent to WWE Deep South Wrestling (DSW) in McDonagh , Georgia .

In 2006, Burke made his WWE debut in the arena of the SmackDown brand ! . In 2007, he won his first WWE title - WWE US Title . Burke held this title for the longest time since the title passed to WWE in 2001, as well as the third in the history of the title. In the same year, Burke, along with Matt Hardy, won the WWE Team Champion title. Burke won his second US WWE title on March 17, 2009. December 3, 2010 dismissed from WWE at his own request. Participated in WWE NXT Season Two as a Percy Watson Pro. After leaving WWE, he signed a contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling .

At the beginning of 2014 he returned to TNA as a new investor. In the summer of 2015, he left TNA due to the involvement of Sean Hernandez, who at that time was bound by contractual obligations with Lucha Underground .

Personal life

Burke grew up in Opa-locka , Florida . His father was a policeman. At age 12, he joined a gang that positioned itself as a “graffiti gang,” which later grew into a street gang.

While in prison, he converted to Islam and took the name Hassan Khamin Assad. [3]

In August 2007, Burke was diagnosed with Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome , a rare disease that causes a rapid heartbeat.

Burke has a large number of tattoos, including a portrait of Malcolm X on the upper left chest, Tutankhamun's sarcophagus on the left bicep, and a large number of unprofessional tattoos made while he was in the gang.

From the age of 13, Burke has been rooting for the Manchester United team, and his favorite player is Eric Cantona .

Burke is a close friend of Matt Hardy and Mark Henry .
