It was opened on December 30, 1972 as part of the Barrikadnaya - October Field site. It was named after the railway platform of the same name , which, in turn, was named after the Moscow Hippodrome .

The station was opened on December 30, 1972 as part of the Barrikadnaya - Oktyabrskoye Pole section, after commissioning of which there were 96 stations in the Moscow Metro.
The station has two underground vestibules. Exits from the eastern lobby - to the Begovaya railway platform of the Belorussian direction and the Third transport ring , exits from the western lobby - to Khoroshevskoye shosse , Rozanova street and to the 1st Khoroshevsky passage . Escalators work on the ascent to the vestibules, the descent is carried out by stairs.
The station was built from prefabricated structures according to a standard design. There are two rows of 26 columns at the station. The step of the columns is 6.5 meters.
The design is dedicated to equestrian sports. The walls of the box office are adorned with the Mighty Trotters panel. The walls of the staircases are decorated with high reliefs on the theme of equestrian sports (sculptor E. M. Ladygin). The floor is lined with granite in dark colors. The track walls are now faced with white marble. “Begovaya” was the first of the typical columned stations where ceramic tile cladding (purple) was replaced with marble in 1997 .
To the south of the station platform there is an anti-wool exit and a single-track connecting branch to the Krasnaya Presnya electric depot.
