Born in a family of a native of the Philippines and a nee Englishwoman. She began her sports career under her mother’s maiden name - Victoria Taylor. In 1945 she won silver and bronze at the US Championship, in the same year she marries her coach.
In 1946-1947 - US champion in jumping from the tower, and in 1948 from a 3-meter springboard. At the Olympic Games in London (1948) she also excelled in the same disciplines. She was the first Asian-American to win the Olympics. On the 3-meter springboard, Draves' victory was the sixth consecutive year for Americans at the Olympics, starting in 1920.
After the Olympics, she performed for some time on the Buster Crabbe show. Since 1950, she devoted herself to the family, raising four sons (Dale, Jeffrey, Kim, David). In 1969, her name was included in the International Water Sports Hall of Fame.
