Yuri Vasilievich Zaitsev ( May 8, 1931 , Baku - August 10, 2009 , Moscow ) - Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (2000), Deputy Minister of Gas Industry of the USSR ( 1973 - 1978 , First Deputy Minister of Gas Industry of the USSR (1978-1983) , doctor of technical sciences, professor, full member of the International Academy of Higher Education ( 1993 ), honored inventor of the Azerbaijan SSR , author of 74 inventions, more than 200 scientific works, monographs, awarded orders, medals, and awarded high honorary titles.

Biography
Yu. V. Zaitsev was born on May 8 in 1931 in Baku . In 1953 he graduated with honors from the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute named after M. Azizbekov (now the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry). He began his career in the Azneft Association as a shift foreman, then as the head of the Association’s technical department.
Life Path
- In 1965 (at the age of 34) he was invited to Moscow, where he is appointed to the post of deputy head of the technical department of the USSR Ministry of Oil and Oil and is a member of the Board of the Ministry.
- From 1970 to 1973 he headed the Department for the Development of Engineering, Technology and Organization of Oil and Gas Production, and was a member of the board.
- From 1973 to 1978 he worked as Deputy Minister of the Gas Industry.
- From 1978 to 1983 - First Deputy Minister of the Gas Industry.
- Three times elected an honorary member of the Institute of Gas Engineers of Great Britain ( 1971 ), the Swedish Gas Association ( 1977 ), the Technical Association of the Gas Industry of France ( 1978 ).
- From 1983 to 2007, he headed the Department of Machinery and Equipment of the Oil and Gas Industry of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas .

Merit in scientific activity
In 2000, with the wording “for achieved labor successes and a great contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between peoples”, Yu. V. Zaitsev was awarded the honorary title “ Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation ” [1] .
He prepared 20 candidates and 8 doctors of sciences; in particular, among his graduates were V. S. Chernomyrdin , R. V. Vyakhirev , and V. V. Pochinkin.
He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow.
