Formation
Formed in October 1941 in the Arkhangelsk Military District as part of the 1,2 and 3rd combat engineer brigades . The army headquarters was located in the city of Vologda (now the Embankment of the VI Army , the building of the central hospital of the Vologda region) [1] .
On February 4, 1942, the GKO adopted Decree No. 1239ss, according to which army command was disbanded, and combat engineer brigades were transferred to the Karelian , Leningrad and Volkhov fronts .
Engineering
The army built defenses in the Vologda Oblast for the 39th , 58th and 59th armies on the line of Vytegra - Cherepovets - Poshekhonovo and Vologda defensive contours . 10 combat engineer battalions of the 1st combat brigade were sent to the Karelian front to create barriers along the line Medvezhyegorsk - Pudozh - Vytegra .
