A video for the song was leaked to YouTube in early May 2008. On May 7, 2008, Universal Motown launched a full high-quality song on the market ^[3] . The song was uploaded to Lohan's official MySpace page ^[4] page. The song was released in digital quality on May 27, 2008 ^{[5] [6] [7]} .

The release of "Bossy", which was approved as a song from the upcoming album by Lindsay Lohan, has been delayed since November 2008.

Bossy received mostly positive reviews. Billboard said: “The track highlights the main side of a hoarse-voiced singer when she rhymes about what she likes on top of simple bass.” ^[8] Digital Spy said: “You can't call“ Bossy ”a golden poppin: the chorus lacks a bit of energy, and Lohan’s vocals are still unconvincing, but this is Lohan’s first melody, which we are ready to listen to more than once. This, we believe, is enough to take a small step forward ” ^[9] .

The single contains a dance pop sound with hip hop and R&B effects.

Ne-Yo wrote a synth-heavy dance track, thinking about the actress, he stated ^[10] :

“I wrote it for her, because when I play, you can see these features in her. When she focuses, she highlights the aura of authority with ease, ”explains Ne-Yo . “When [producer] Stargate and I were working on a task, we rated it as a challenge:“ Can we make a song for Lindsay Lohan that people take seriously? ”I think we got it.”

In the chorus of the song, Lohan cheekily sings: "I'm just a little domineering, I do everything as I like, and when I want, it has always been like that."

Ne-Yo said the song is about power: “Essentially, it is about a woman who is strong enough to get what she wants when she wants it,” he says. "In this case, Bossy is a term that describes self-confidence and power."

Ne-Yo also stated: “I have to admit, we were like ... Lindsay Lohan ?” Ne-Yo said, laughing. “I mean, I wrote for Beyoncé , Mary J Blige , Rihanna , Celine Dion and ... Lindsay Lohan? But I will say it; we gave her a high-quality recording, and she did a legendary work laughingly. I was so shocked, I had to call her and apologize for what I thought about, because she did it so well. I think the world will be surprised. ” ^[11]
