Women's Philharmonic Orchestra

The Women's Philharmonic Orchestra is an American symphony orchestra that operated between 1981 and 2004 . and based in San Francisco . The team not only consisted of female performers, but also performed under the direction of female conductors, specializing in the works of female composers (however, not exclusively). By 1998, the compositions of 150 women were presented in his repertoire, 129 premieres were performed by the orchestra, including 35 works commissioned by the orchestra [1] . The highest achievements of the orchestra were associated with the leadership of Jo-Ann Fallett at the turn of the 1980s-90s: the orchestra’s work to discover new female names in the history of music and in the contemporary musical situation aroused great enthusiasm both among its members and the public, which differed in most of it from an ordinary listening audience [2] .

  • Elizabeth Cija Ming ( 1981 - 1985 )
