History

In 1911, according to the project of the city architect Grigory Artynov in the city of Vinnitsa , a temple was built for teachers and students of the then teacher’s seminary, as well as for residents of the Zamost district, in honor of the Ascension of the Lord. The temple was on the corner of the current Kotsyubinsky Avenue and the street of the 50th anniversary of the Victory.

It is noteworthy that the worship in this temple was accompanied by the singing of a choir from the students of the teacher’s seminary.

In 1929, it was decided to close the temple and rebuild it into a cinema. In the 1930s, the main part of the church was converted into a cinema. The altar was demolished, and in its place a foyer was attached to the main part of the temple. During the war in 1944, the temple building was destroyed.

In 2001, with the blessing of Metropolitan Vinnitsa and Mogilev-Podolsky Makarii (Whistler) and on the initiative of Archpriest Agafangel (Davidovsky), a community was created to revive the Ascension Church. The community found the sketches of the temple made by Grigory Artynov. Since 2006, divine services have been held in a small church in the territory intended for the revival of the Ascension Church.
