Biography
Bruno Streckenbach was born on February 7, 1902 in the family of customs officer Hans Streckenbach and his wife Minna, nee Spenner . In 1919 he graduated from a real gymnasium and voluntarily entered the 6th Reichswehr Infantry Regiment, from where he was expelled, in the absence of the opportunity to obtain an officer rank.
In 1920-1923 - a member of the Union of the Werewolves . Member of the NSDAP (since March 1931). In the fall of 1932 he entered the 28th SS standard (Hamburg).
In 1933-1936 he was the head of the Gestapo in Hamburg.
In 1936-1939 - Inspector of the Security Police of the X Military District (Hamburg).
In August 1939, he was seconded to Vienna , at the headquarters of the Süd group, to create and lead the police, prepared for action during the occupation of Poland. During the invasion of Poland, he headed the Einsatzgruppe I attached to the 14th Army .
In September 1939, he was the head of the security police under the army group Zyud ( Krakow , since mid-October 1939 - the capital of the governor general). Since October 1939 - Commissioner of the Security Police under the Supreme Command of the SS and the Police of the Governor General of Poland (headed by SS Obergruppenführer Friedrich Krueger ).
From May 1940 to December 1942 - Head of the 1st Directorate (Office of Personnel) of the Main Directorate of Imperial Security (RSHA).
From December 1942 to February 1943, he was the commander of the anti-tank artillery division of the 8th Cavalry Division of the SS (Mitte Army Group; in May-June 1943 he participated in the struggle against the partisan movement (against Kovpak ) in the triangle between Pripyat and the Dnieper ). From mid-August 1943 - commander of the 1st (16th) cavalry regiment of the 8th cavalry division of the SS; then, from mid-September 1943 until January 1944, he was the commander of the same division. From April 13, 1944 to May 9, 1945 - commander of the 19th Latvian SS Volunteer Division.
Arrested on December 28, 1946 (since May 9, 1945 - a prisoner of war).
The verdict of the Military Tribunal of the Moscow District of February 18, 1952 for the crimes under Art. 2 paragraph 1, paragraphs “a”, “c”, “c” of Act No. 10 of the Control Council in Germany and Art. 1 Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 19, 1943 in accordance with Art. 2 of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 26, 1947 "On the abolition of the death penalty", was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 25 years. By a decision of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR of April 29, 1952, the punishment in the ITL was replaced by imprisonment.
On the basis of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 28, 1955, Bruno Streckenbach was prematurely released from prison on October 10, 1955 and transferred to the government of the German Democratic Republic in Herlichausen . Upon returning to his homeland, he was accused of crimes of National Socialism, but the sentence was not imposed due to his incompetence .
