History

Archaeological excavations suggest that people lived in the area of modern Rosmalen even in prehistoric times. The settlement itself was first mentioned in the annals of the year 815 as Rosmalla or Rosmella .

In 1309, John II the Quiet , the Duke of Brabant , bestowed on Rosmalen the coat of arms, which depicted a plow and a four-leafed clover leaf. This emblem with minimal changes existed until 1995 and was minted on weapons produced in Rosmalen.

In 1434 the monastery of St. Birgitta was founded near Rosmalen.

During the Netherlands Revolution, the nearby town of ертhertogenbosch took the side of the Spaniards. In 1629, after a long siege by the forces of Frederick-Heinrich, the city fell, and the surrounding villages were transferred to state ownership. This step negatively affected Rosmalena with its Catholic community: the Catholic Church of St. Lambert was placed under the control of Protestants, under which it remained until 1823 .

In the 18th century, Rosmalen suffered several serious natural disasters. In 1719, a drought struck him, in 1767 a storm, and in 1781 he experienced an epidemic of cholera or dysentery, which in two months claimed the lives of three percent of the population.

In 1813, the mayor first appeared in Rosmalen. By 1960, the population of the city reached ten thousand, and by 1985 - 25 thousand people. In 1995, the Parliament of the Netherlands passed a law uniting the municipalities around ертertogenbosch, including Rosmalen, into a single municipal structure.
