The coach of the year according to the Scottish Football Writers' Association Manager of the Year is the annual award for the best coach of the year in Scottish football .
The award was first presented at the end of the 1986/87 season . The winner is determined by voting among members of the Scottish Association of Football Journalists (SCWF) ( English SFWA ), which includes more than a hundred press representatives working across the country [1] . The first winner of the award was Dundee United club mentor Jim Macklin , the first non-Scottish trainer to receive this prize was Jimmy Nicholl , a Northern Irishman who at that time was leading the Rovers . The current owner of the award is the mentor of Celtic Brendan Rogers [2] .
