It is the administrative center of the village council of the same name , which, in addition, includes the villages of Emadykino and Chernovskoe
Geographical position
The village is located on the banks of the Lapuga River [2] , which after 1.5 km flows into the Obesta River, and after 3 km into the Kleven River, the village of Gudovo is located upstream at a distance of 2 km. Forests adjoin the village (oak, birch, pine).
Name Origin
The name of the village comes from the name of one of the first settlers - Shalygin, who got here allotted for military service.
History
It was founded at the end of the 16th century - at the beginning of the 17th century .
In the first half of the 17th century, the village was one of the border posts of the Russian kingdom.
In 1727, the village became part of the Putivl district of the Sevsky province of the Belgorod province , in 1757 the village became the property of Prince Baryatinsky .
Since 1797 - the village of Krupetsky volost of the Putivl district of the Kursk province . In the 1880s it became a volost center, later - a district center.
During the Great Patriotic War, from the end of September 1941 to September 3, 1943, the village was occupied by German troops .
In 1956 - assigned the status of urban-type villages [2] .
In 1985, there was a sugar factory [3] , a brick factory, three secondary schools, a hospital, four libraries and a club [2] .
After the independence of Ukraine, the village turned out to be on the border with Russia , a border crossing was set up here, which is in the zone of responsibility of the Sumy border detachment of the Eastern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Administration [4] , here is a military town military unit 9953 state border service [5] .
In July 1995, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decision on the privatization of the sugar factory located here [6] .
Population
Shalygino
In 1819, there were 115 yards and 857 inhabitants in the village [7] .
In 1862, there were 142 households in the property village, 1,081 people lived (530 males and 551 females), there was an Orthodox church and a sugar beet factory [8] .
As of 1880, 1548 people lived in the former proprietary village of Shalyginsky volost of the Putivl district of the Kursk province , there were 223 households, an Orthodox church, a school, and 2 shops existed [9] .

In 1862, in the proprietary village, there were 203 yards, 1,158 people lived (582 males and 576 females), there was an Orthodox church [8] .
In 1880, in the former proprietary village of the Shalyginsky volost of the Putivl district of the Kursk province , 1017 people lived, there were 123 farm households, an Orthodox church existed [9] .
After merging
According to the 1959 census, the population of the village was 6652 people (2863 males and 3789 females) [10] .
In January 1989, the population was 3457 people (1524 males and 1933 females) [11] , by 2001 it had decreased to 3203 people [12] .

Transport
The village is located 12 km from the nearest railway station. Krupets station [2] (on the Khutor-Mikhailovsky – Vorozhba line) [3] .
The Glukhov – Kursk E 38 highway runs 10 km from the village , and the Glukhov – Sumy P-44 highway is 13 km away.
Attractions
- In Shalygin , the Trinity Church operated, which was destroyed in the 1930s [16] . Now in the village, the former village of Kovyonki, which is part of the Shalygin, the Ilyinsky Church (1889-1906) operates, it was restored in the 1990s and reconstructed in 2008 .
- In the center of the village is the mass grave of Soviet soldiers, built in 1955 , and an obelisk to fellow villagers who fell during the war.
- Also in the village of Shalygin are located "Seven Springs" - unique hydrological formations of self-flowing water sources, which have an aesthetic and educational value. The hydrological landmark of nature of local importance "Seven Springs" has an area of 0.5 ha. The natural-historical value of the “Seven Springs” sights lies in the valuable quality of water, which, in addition to taste, has healing qualities.
Famous People
- Tarabarinov, Leonid Semenovich - Soviet and Ukrainian film and theater actor, theater teacher, People's Artist of the USSR, was born in the village of Shalygino .
