Beginning of military career
In November 1909 he entered the military service as a fan cadet (officer candidate), in an infantry regiment. Since August 1910 - lieutenant.
World War I
He commanded an infantry platoon, then an infantry company. Awarded with Iron Crosses of both degrees.
In 1919 he was dismissed from military service (due to the reduction of the number of Reichswehr to 100 thousand) with the assignment of the rank of captain.
World War II
With the beginning of the Second World War - again in military service (at the age of 49 years), the company commander of the 27th Infantry Division. He participated in the Polish and French campaigns. In 1940 he was promoted to majors, appointed commander of an infantry battalion of the 227th Infantry Division.
From June 22, 1941 he fought on the northern sector of the Eastern Front (on the Leningrad direction). From August 1942 - Commander of the 366th Regiment of the 227th Infantry Division, Lieutenant Colonel. In December 1942 - was awarded the Knight's Cross.
In 1943 - fighting in the Narva region. In April 1944 - promoted to colonel, awarded with oak leaves to the Knight's Cross.
Since July 1944 - Commander of the 227th Infantry Division . Fighting in the Courland pot .
In January 1945 - promoted to major general and awarded with Swords (No. 123) to the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves.
On April 25, 1945, Major General Wenler died as a result of an aerial bombardment.
