The 6th Fighter Aviation Regiment is a military unit of the Red Army Air Force in World War II .

History
The regiment was formed in Khabarovsk on June 19, 1938 on the basis of the 26th separate fighter aviation squadron of the Air Force of the Separate Red Banner Far Eastern Army (until 1933 - the Naval Forces of the Far East). Before the war he was one of the most well-trained formations: in 1939-1940 he took first place in training among the Red Army air forces.
As part of the army from July 23, 1941 to February 8, 1942.
On June 22, 1941, a regiment of 4 squadrons, armed with I-16 , I-15 bis aircraft, was based in the village of Garovka-2 near Khabarovsk. July 8, 1941 began the transfer to the west. July 19-20, 1941 the regiment arrived in Borisoglebsk , with 64 aircraft. It was reorganized: on the base of the regiment, two regiments were created that retained their previous number ( see also the 6th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the South-Western Front ).
The regiment, which received 32 I-16 aircraft, departed near Novgorod and from July 24 to the end of August 1941 participated in intense battles in the north-west direction. On the very first day of hostilities, pilots of the regiment shot down 5 enemy aircraft.
On January 11, 1942 the regiment had 6 combat-ready aircraft I-16 and 2 LaGG-3 [1] .
Then the regiment operates in the Novgorod - Staraya Russa - Demyansk area until February 8, 1942, when it was withdrawn for reformation to the 5th reserve aviation brigade.
For 7 months, the regiment made 4420 combat sorties, conducted 217 battles, shot down 61 enemy aircraft in the air and destroyed 6 on the ground.
On March 7, 1942, the regiment was transformed into the 18th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment .

Commanders
- Aristov, Boris Romanovich - lieutenant colonel, was born in 1905, in the village of Antipinsky (Arkhangelsk region, Shenkur district). Member of the CPSU (b) since 1926. In the Red Army from 12.10. 1927 year. He was killed in an air battle on July 26, 1941 [2] . He was buried in the village of Yudina [3] [4] .
- Damn, Sergey Ivanovich - senior political instructor, then major, born in 1910, in the city of Leningrad. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1936. He participated in the battles from 06.24.1941. After the death of Aristov, the senior political officer Chertov took command of the regiment. On September 27, 1943, he was commander of the 113th Guards and Infantry Regiment of the 10th GuiAD [5] . He was awarded the Order of Lenin (11/27/1941) [2] , the Order of the Red Banner (10/30/1943) [5] , the Order of Alexander Nevsky (05/12/1944) [6] , the Order of the Red Banner (10/10/1944) [7] .
- Moiseev, Victor Ilyich - major, was born in 1910, in the village of Rozhdestvenskoye (Leningrad Region, Krasnogvardeisky district). He commanded the regiment since July 1941. He disappeared on 05/17/1942 while performing a combat mission [8] [9] . Awarded the Order of the Red Banner [10]
