Yoga Vasishtha

" Yoga-Vasistha " ( Sk . वासिष्ठ -) is a Sanskrit religious-philosophical composition. It is a collection of conversations between sages who gathered in the palace of Prince Rama in order to pass on spiritual knowledge to him. Vasishtha answers the questions of Rama, raising various topics related to self-awareness, explaining the cycles of creation, maintenance and destruction of the Universe. This is the largest Sanskrit text after the Mahabharata and Ramayana and one of the most important texts on yoga and advaita vedanta . Due to the manner of presentation of the material, Yoga-Vasishtha is often characterized as the most suitable text for the study of those who wish to understand the basics of Hindu philosophy . Yoga Vasishtha consists of about 30,000 slokas and brief, instructive stories. Scientists date the text from the period from the VI to the XIV century . [1] “Yoga-Vasishtha” is also known by other names: “ Maha-Ramayana ”, “ Arsha-Ramayana ”, “ Vasishtha-Ramayana ” [2] and “ Vasishtha-gita ”.

The publishing house "Ganga" in 2010 released a translation of books first and second. [3] A confessional translation by Swami Vidyananda Saraswati is also available in Russian [4] .
