History
The division was formed in August 1940 in the Baltic Special Military District . As part of the army from June 22, 1941 to August 11, 1941. On June 22, 1941, the division’s management was based in Riga ; the regiments that make up the division were based at the airfields of Riga, Mitava , Libava , Vindava . It had in its composition 250 aircraft, of which 35 were malfunctioning.
Since the beginning of the war, he has been active in the Baltic states , participating in the defense of Libava and Riga , has attempted to strike at targets in the enemy’s immediate rear area, then retreats to the east and operates in the Pskov Region during July 1941. In the first two weeks of the war, lost two-thirds of aircraft. As of July 4, 1941, it consisted of: command staff - 577 people, junior command staff - 1345 people, rank and file - 1378 people. In total - 3300 people. Rifles - 2723, aircraft - 69, was at the airport Mugs. On July 6, 1941, the division’s management was based at the Grivochka airfield . On July 12, 1941, it was already east of Shimsk . August 11, 1941 turned to the formation of the Air Force Department of the 48th Army .
