Biography
Born in the village of Khorostovo now Soligorsky district , Belarus .
In 1921, as part of the partisan detachment, Kirill Orlovsky took part in battles in Western Belarus with the White Guard anti-Soviet detachments of General Bulak-Balakhovich and the Social Revolutionary leader Boris Savinkov .
In 1931-1936 - in the organs of the GPU - the NKVD of the BSSR. In 1931, after completing special courses at the OGPU, Korzh became the leader of the partisan movement. For the purpose of conspiracy, he was considered an instructor of Osoaviahim, but he was in charge of 6 border areas [2] .
From Korzh’s autobiography: “... From May 1926 to November 1929, being the chairman of the collective farm, I was simultaneously a special account and conducted a lot of special preparatory work, every year I underwent military special training ... From May 15, 1931 I was recalled for permanent work in the NKVD for special work. "
From November 1936 to December 1937 , the NKVD fought against the Francoists in Spain and was the commander of a partisan detachment [3] . For his courage, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and the Red Star .
In 1938 he was arrested on charges of spying for Poland . He spent more than a month in the Minsk prison of the NKVD , but did not sign a confession of espionage.
The Great Patriotic War found Vasily Korzh in Pinsk, where he worked in the regional party committee [3] .
During the war he created a partisan detachment in the Pinsk region under the pseudonym Komarov. On June 28, 1941, partisans of Komarov’s detachment set up an ambush for light tanks moving along the Pinsk - Logishin road. With a well-aimed throw of grenades, the head machine was hit. This battle of the partisan "Komarovtsev" (in which they did not lose a single fighter) is considered the very first in the history of the partisan movement of the USSR .

In the winter of 1942, partisans under the command of Korzh carried out a sled raid on the rear of the Germans, defeating dozens of fascist garrisons . Partisans of Korzh spent 1119 days behind enemy lines. Under his leadership, partisans destroyed more than 26 thousand fascists, defeated 60 German garrisons, 5 railway stations, derailed 468 trains with manpower and military equipment of the enemy, destroyed 519 km of telephone and telegraph lines.
By decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of September 16, 1943, No. 1000 V.Z. Korzh was awarded the military rank of Major General.
His youngest daughter, Zinaida, also fought. Awarded orders and medals. Chairman of the Society of Women Participants in the Great Patriotic War.
In 1946 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff and in the same year he was transferred to the reserve. In 1949-1953 he worked as deputy minister of forestry of the Byelorussian SSR, and then until his death, he was chairman of the Partizansky Krai collective farm in the village of Khorostovo, Soligorsk District, Minsk Region (now an agricultural enterprise named after V.Z. Korzh OJSC).
After the war, V.Z. Korzh dreamed of publishing a book of his memoirs, in which, being truth-loving, he gave unpleasant characteristics to some leaders of the republic, which is why censors crossed out entire pages. During his life, these memoirs never saw the light of day. His daughter Zinaida handed over these memoirs to the National Archives of Belarus in the summer of 2008 .
Until the end of his life, he was friends with Marshal Zhukov , whom he met in Slutsk , where Zhukov served before the war. Together they went to hunt ducks in remote marshes, and Zhukov often remained to spend the night with his parents after the hunt. Korzh repeatedly came after the war to Moscow, to visit the already disgraced Zhukov.
