Length - 35 km, catchment area - 308 km². It flows through the territory of the Askiz region in an eastern direction. The source is the eastern slope of Saryg city ​​( Sakhsar ridge), the mouth is southeast of the village of Ust-Kamyshta . The absolute height of the source is about 990 m, the mouth is 334 m.

Big Syr has about 10 tributaries, the largest left - Small Syr (20 km). The valley is wide: from 1 km in the upper part to 4 km in the estuary. The slopes of the valley in the upper reaches are covered with forest vegetation (15-20%), the forest disappears towards the mouth. The floodplain is very boggy, in the upper reaches of bushes. The banks are often steep. In the lower part of the river basin there are elders . The channel is very winding, the bottom is sandy and pebble. In the estuarine part, waterlogging increases, as a result of which the channel is often lost. The hydrological regime is characterized by spring flood, summer-autumn and winter low water, summer floods. In the valley there are settlements: Cheeses , Syrsky and auxiliary Meltisa. Water resources are used for irrigation.

The river basin is the Yenisei, the river sub-basin of the Yenisei between the confluence of the Greater and Lesser Yenisei and the confluence of the Angara River , the water sector of the river is the Yenisei from the Sayano-Shushensky hydroelectric complex to the confluence of the Abakan River [2] .
