The state of Esvatini , located between the Republic of South Africa and Mozambique , is dominated by ethnic Swazi people. The music in Esvatini is known for a number of folk instrument performers, and modern rock, pop and hip hop are also known.
Esvatini hosts two of the largest ceremonies - the Inquala , which takes place in December, and the Umhlanga , which takes place in August. Umhlanga is an annual ceremony where King Esvatini Mswati III chooses a bride from dancing virgins. The ceremony usually lasts 5 days. There is also music for harvesting, weddings and other events. Traditional instruments include kudu horn, calabash , rattles and reed flutes .
Since the 1990s, Esvatini has become the host country for Africa's emerging hip hop scene. Many hip-hop artists perform in neighboring South Africa for the lack of the opportunity to perform in their homeland.
