Legend
|
For the cinema in 1913-1914, an outhouse was built in the courtyard of the house Nevsky Prospect, house number 80 , designed by M. S. Lyalevich . The cinema was named "Parisian", its capacity was 800 seats [1] , which in 1914-1917 became a cult place for film professionals - art historians and journalists . This was due to both the quality of the building and the cinema itself, and the location in the center of the capital of the Russian Empire . [2] The first owner of the cinema was Z. Ya. Raygorodsky , the creation of the first cinemas in Russia took place with the participation of the town mayor A. N. Obolensky . [1] [3]
On the technical innovations of the cinema says the fact that the cinema was arranged drop-down ceiling, which turns the cinema into an institution under the open sky. [4] He competed for the title of the best only with the cinema "Piccadilly" (Modern Aurora ). [five]
After the revolution, the former director became the first director of the cinema, on January 23, it was considered the day the company was founded. [3] The cinema in the Soviet era , from 1920 [6] to 1994, was called October. In this regard, in the foyer of the cinema, a pictorial panel depicting the revolutionary places of Petrograd-Leningrad was installed. [7]
Under War Communism (1919), three entertainment centers were distinguished in the city: the Ciniselli circus , the Cabaret and the Parisian . [8] During the NEP period, the cinema was adjacent to an entertainment center called Shury Mury. Later, in the years 1923-1925, the building housed the Sevzapkino office, which was later transformed into the film studio Lenfilm . [9] At about the same time (in 1923–1927), Dmitry Shostakovich worked in a cinema at the taper theater. [ten]
The cinema together with the cinema "Neva" was part of the cinema enterprise "October" and in the pre-war period was a popular place for citizens. [11] During the blockade, the cinema didn’t stop working as much as possible, the only interruption occurred in January 1942 due to lack of electricity . In 1945, the cinema was overhauled, with a memorial plaque in memory of the cinema workers who died during World War II. [7]
The cinema was one of the centers of the cultural life of the besieged city. Olga Bergholz included the memory of the cinema in her book :
We recently made our way to the cinema "October" (the one on the sunny side of Nevsky) from somewhere on the side, along dark back streets, looking like trenches, and now we proudly enter it from the main entrance, from Nevsky. And on the posters of our theaters, a new line appeared: “You must take off your top dress!” How great it is that you can undress in theaters. This means that there will be no shelling, that the spectators and artists will not have to quickly disperse, interrupting the performance. Good!
- Says Leningrad [12]
In 1962, the cinema was reequipped to show widescreen films , while the capacity of the auditorium remained virtually unchanged and reached 818 seats. [7]
After 1994
In this form, it existed until 1994, after reconstruction V. V. Putin signed a decree N 1237-p of December 9, 1994, which changed the form of ownership of the enterprise from the Cultural and Educational Center to GUP . [13] The cinema specialists asked to equip the cinema with a modern dolby spatial sound system, but no funds were allocated for this. [14]
Despite the fact that the cinema was not perfect, after reconstruction it became a venue for cultural events dedicated to cinema and not only:

All this time, the cinema was a state enterprise, and on February 22, 2007 it was decided to liquidate the State Unitary Enterprise "Parisian", which was signed by V. I. Matvienko [27] [28]
After that, the cinema was recognized technically and morally obsolete [29] and its premises were reconstructed as part of the reconstruction of the building of 2009-2010, while the administration of St. Petersburg made it imperative for the reconstruction to preserve the profile of the cinema, [30] determining the opening date by documents June 2008 [31]
But the fulfillment of the obligations of the city administration is difficult to implement for economic reasons. The management company has the following opinion on this matter :
But the network of cinemas among applicants for its area yet. This is a specific business that brings income only in the presence of several halls. And it is impossible to place multiplex in this building.
