Biography
Before the war
He was born on October 22, 1907 in the Khodun-Bilchir ulus of the Khorinsky district of Buryatia in a large family of a poor peasant herder. Buryat. Soon lost his mother. Until 1923, he helped his father with the housework, and then worked as an ulus shepherd and was engaged in self-education. In December 1923 he left for the city of Verkhneudinsk (now Ulan-Ude), at political courses. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1925. In 1926, the Khorinsky CPSU (b) sent him to the city of Irkutsk for study.
In August 1931, Darma Zhanaev went to Moscow and entered the Moscow Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture (now the Moscow Energy Institute ). In December 1938, after graduation, he entered the aviation plant in the city of Ulan-Ude as an electrical engineer. Soon he was transferred to the post of head of the energy bureau of the chief power engineer, where he worked until the outbreak of war. When the war broke out, despite the “armor”, it was eager for the front.
World War II
In the Red Army since 1941. Member of the Great Patriotic War since November 1941.
The chief of engineering of the 23rd Guards Motorized Rifle Vasilkovskaya Red Banner Brigade (7th Guards Tank Corps, 3rd Guards Tank Army, 1st Ukrainian Front) of the Guard Captain Darma Zhanaev distinguished himself in battles in the Berlin direction.
Feat
On April 16–25, 1945, in a wooded and swampy area, he organized the laying of the path for brigade units. He supervised the construction of crossings on the rivers Neisse , Spree and Telt-Canal ( Germany ), ensuring quick transfer of the brigade along them. Participated in the clearance of terrain and roads. During the offensive he supervised the construction of five bridges, the strengthening of roads in a wooded and swampy area [1] .
On April 25, 1945, Captain Darma Zhanaev was seriously injured and died in the hospital on April 27. He was buried in the city of Zagan ( Poland ) [2] [3] [4] [5] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union [6] for the exemplary execution of combat missions of command on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders.

D. Zhanaev is named after a street and a park in the capital of Buryatia - the city of Ulan-Ude , the House of Pioneers in Khorinsk , Khorinskaya secondary school No. 1.
The name of Darma Zhanaev is carved on the obelisk dedicated to the memory of employees and students of Irkutsk State University who died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
Hero of the Soviet Union D. Zh. Zhanaev was enrolled in the lists of the aircraft factory , where he worked and where he left for the front.
In the village of Khorinsk , Shkolnaya Street on February 28, 1962 was renamed Zhanaev Street.
In the village of Kizhinga, a street is named after the Hero.
