The Legion was founded during the reign of Emperor Diocletian , who gave him his nickname Iovius . The unit was stationed in the province of Lower Moesia (later its camp turned out to be in the province of Scythia, allocated from Lower Moesia) near the mouth of the Danube . In the years 296-298, vexillation of the legion took part in the Persian campaign of Galerius . Apparently, an elite unit of Jobov was allocated from its composition at the beginning of the 4th century. After the death of Diocletian, the legion was for some time located in the fortress of Dinogetia (8 kilometers east of the modern Romanian city of Galati ), as evidenced by the hallmarks on the bricks of the local church.
According to Notitia Dignitatum , at the beginning of the 5th century of I Jupiter, the legion was under the jurisdiction of the Scythian dux [1] . Parts of the legion with their prefects were stationed in Noviodun-on-Istra , Egissos and Kapidava and guarded the Danube border. According to some reports, the legion still existed in the era of the Byzantine Empire .
