History
In the Middle Ages, these places became famous due to the fact that the action of the novel " River Backwaters " took place here, however, they were not combined into a single administrative structure.
In August 1940, during the war with Japan, the Kunshan Practical Region (昆山 实验 区) was created by the West Lus District Committee of the Communist Party of China. In January 1941, it was transformed into Kunshan County (昆山 县).
In August 1949, Pingyuan Province was formed, and Kunshan County became part of it, while being renamed Liangshan. In 1952, Pingyuan Province was disbanded, and the county became part of the Heze (菏泽 菏泽) Special Region of Shandong Province. In 1958, the Hejie Special District was annexed to the Jining Special District (济宁 专区). In June 1959, the Hejie Special District was rebuilt, and Liangshan County became part of it again. In March 1967, the Heze Special District was renamed the Heze District (菏泽 地区).
In 1990, Liangshan County was transferred to the Jining City District.
