Making a movie
Rumors about a remake of the Western "True Courage" western were in February 2008 [4] , but they were not confirmed until March 2009 [5] . The casting phase began in November, in Texas , with a search for candidates for the role of 14-year-old Matty Ross. The following month, a website was created where videos were taken of those wishing to participate in the samples. The site said that a girl aged 12-17 was required, and that her character was "simple, tough" and that "her unusually steel nerves and straightforwardness often surprise." [6]
The Coen was chosen by Hayley Steinfield , who took her father’s shooting lessons [7] . In March and April 2010, the film was shot in the Santa Fe area ( New Mexico ). In addition, the shooting also took place in Granger ( Texas ) [8] . On the set , the Coen brothers came in cowboy hats to create an atmosphere. Matt Damon was forced to fold his tongue in a special way and secure it with an elastic band to make it easier to reproduce the speech defect of his hero [7] .
Michael Bienne auditioned for the role of Ned Pepper. Jeff Bridges and Josh Brolin played Wild Bill Hickock in Wild Bill (1995) and Young Riders (1989) respectively.
The film received an unusually soft rental rating for Cohen, so it collected more at the box office than their other films.
One of the few films produced by Steven Spielberg , at the beginning of which does not appear the screensaver of the company " Amblin Entertainment " or " DreamWorks Pictures ".
In True Courage (1969), Rooster Cogburn wears a blindfold on his left eye . In the remake, the blindfold is worn on the right eye. Rooster Cogburn in the novel is about 40 years old, but both John Wayne and Jeff Bridges were in their sixties when they played the role.
