History
Soul Asylum was born from the punk rock band Loud Fast Rules, which was created by drummer and vocalist Dave Pirner in 1981. Besides him, the group included Dan Murphy (guitar) and Karl Muller (bass). After the appearance of the new drummer, Pat Morley Pirner switched to guitar and the group began to explore the expanses of their native Mineapolis . Morley left the band in 1984 , and with the advent of new drummer Hrant Young, the team got a deal with Twin / Tone Records and released their first EP, Say What You Will, Clarence ... Karl Sold The Truck (What you want, Clarence Carl sold the truck / truck. ”)
Around 1986, the group acquired a commercial focus and received an invitation from the major A&M Records , but the label did not like the material recorded by the group and the contract was terminated, which put the team on the brink of disintegration. The group saved the offer from the no less reputable Columbia Records , on the label of which the group released its landmark album Grave Dancers Union (Community of Grave Dancers), a composition from which Runaway Train (Runaway Train), dedicated to missing children , did not leave anyone indifferent.
The group received a Grammy , and the album received the status of triple platinum . Most of the money collected, the musicians sent to charity. Of course, it was not without a fly in the ointment, expressed in the change of the drummer, but Sterling Campbell, who came from Duran Duran , did not spoil the picture.
In the future, the group failed to repeat the success, and in 2005 when recording the album “The Silver Lining” the bassist Karl Müller died of cancer, and there is nothing to say about the further development of the group. But in 2010, information appeared on the group’s website that the group was working on a new disc.
June 17, 2012 Soul Asylum will present their new disc Delayed Reaction, the first in 6 years.
