Location

It is located in the southern part of the archipelago at a distance of almost 30 kilometers south of Cape Sverdlov , the southeastern cape of the island of the October Revolution . Included in the islands of the Red Navy . The northernmost island of the group. Lies 1.1 kilometers north of the island of Plosky .

Description

It has a length of 2.2 kilometers and a width of up to 1.1 kilometers stretched from southwest to northeast. Free of ice. The banks are uneven with cliffs of 5-6 meters in the south. The central part of the island is a cliff 39 meters high. This is the highest point not only on Crest Island, but also on the entire Red Navy as a whole. At its top, a point of the filming network is fixed. Near the northern shore there is a small drainage lake , separated from the sea by a narrow land.

History

Crest Island, along with the rest of the Red Navy Islands, was first discovered and mapped on August 17, 1932 by an expedition of the All-Union Arctic Institute on the icebreaker "V. Rusanov ” [1] .
