Biography

Born December 1, 1879 in Riga . He graduated from the Jelgava Real School . In 1897, he entered the service of the Russian Imperial Army as a volunteer in the 110th Kama Infantry General-Adjutant-General Count Toll, 1st Regiment in Kovno . In 1898 he entered and in 1900 graduated from the Vilna infantry cadet school . After graduating from college he served in the 115th Vyazemsky Infantry Regiment , in 1901, with the rank of second lieutenant, he was transferred to the 180th Windavsky Infantry Regiment . As part of the 2nd East Siberian regiment participated in the Russian-Japanese war , was wounded. In 1905 he was a lieutenant , returned to service in the 115th Vyazemsky Infantry Regiment in Riga . On January 1, 1909 - Lieutenant of the 115th Vyazemsky Infantry Regiment in Riga. Headquarters Captain (1909), Captain (1913). In 1915 he was appointed commander of the battalion of the 115th regiment. At the beginning of 1916 he was transferred to the 7th Bauska battalion of Latvian riflemen, in January he was appointed head of the rear of the battalion, and on July 30, 1916 - and. about. battalion commander. On November 13, 1916, after the battalion was reorganized into a regiment, he was the acting commander of the battalion. He was wounded in his left hand during the Christmas fights. After the revolution and the re-formation of the Latvian rifle corps, on December 17, 1917, he became commander of the 1st division of the Latvian riflemen. From May 1918, he was the commander of the Petrograd- Sestroretsk- Beloostrovskaya group of Soviet troops on the Karelian front, from August 19, 1918 - commander of the 2nd brigade of the 1st Petrograd division, from January 12, 1919 - commander of the 1st Latvian Soviet rifle division. From January 24 to March 27, 1919 the commander of the group of Soviet troops of the Valmiera Group. From March 26, 1919 to May, he commanded the united Kurzeme-Vidzeme group of Soviet troops, from May - the Kurzeme group of troops, from June - the 2nd division of Latvia and the Aluksne group of forces.

Due to the loss of Riga at the end of August 1919, he was suspended from duty, and an investigation was launched against him.

On August 7, 1919, he was sent to the headquarters of the Western Front , where he did not arrive, but crossed the front line and surrendered to parts of independent Latvia [1] . Until October 10, 1919 was in prison. After liberation - in the Latvian army. From October 18, 1919, he served in the Cesis training battalion. On December 31, 1919, he was appointed Chief of Security in Tukums - Talsi County . From May 31, 1919 - the military commander of the same county . From December 1920 he worked in the drafting committee on the legislation on military service, headed the Tukums department of the Latvian riflemen’s society, and worked in the Daugavas Vanagi society.

Awarded the St. George Cross with laurel leaves (1917), St. Vladimir 4th Degree, Orders of St. Anne 2nd, 3rd and 4th Degrees, St. Stanislav 2nd and 3rd Degrees, Latvian Order of the Three stars of the 4th degree (1929).

He died on December 3, 1931 in Tukums . He was buried at the Sesavsky parish cemetery.
