Itgel ( Tib. སྐྱབས་ འདྲོ་ སེམས་ བསྐྱེད ། - coming to refuge and the birth of bodhichitta; Mongol. Itgel yavuulkhyn Yes - the rule of confession of faith) is a " symbol of faith " [1] in the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism . The text contains the fundamental tenets of Vajrayana Buddhism and is extremely widely used in the cult practice of the Gelug school up to the present. One of the few texts whose knowledge was imputed to all believing Gelugpins in Tibet and Mongolia .

Cult Practice
“ Such a prayer should naturally find great use for itself, and, indeed, it can be heard not only at every service, it can be found not only at every llama, but almost in the house of every commoner .” [2] This text was also at the beginning of all the confusions (“prayer books”) of the Gelug school, and was also used at the beginning of tantric practices .
Throughout Tibet ... not only llamas, but even commoners who were not entering the temple otherwise than having previously read the “men”, “itegel” ( creed ) and “ mikjim ”. Most people know these prayers by heart, but for those unaware and minors, a pillar is dug in front of the doors of the temple, on which are mentioned remembered prayers from all sides. In large monasteries, where a lot of people gather and where believers find it inconvenient to go around the pillar to read everything written on it, “ mani ”, “itegel” and “ mikchim ” are written on moving, rotating circles, poles. After reading what is written on one side of the pillar, you turn it and read what is written on the other; the more times you read, the more worthy you enter the temple.

Text Structure
The authorship of the text is not known for certain. The text is a compilation of texts for taking Buddhist refuge, bodhisattva vows, quotes from the works of Buddhist philosophers, and an abbreviated ritual of invoking the Buddha and offering the mandala. “ If we begin to take apart this prayer in parts, we will find in it ourselves ... all parts of the rapsals : there is a confession of faith, there is praise, there is petition, there is benevolence .” [four]
