The Norwegian Institute of Sports ( Norges idrettshøgskole, NIH ) is a public university located on Lake Sognsvann near Oslo , Norway . The university mainly studies the problems of physical culture and sports, as well as the training and qualification of specialists in this field. After studying, students can get bachelor's , master's and doctoral degrees . Among university graduates there are many famous coaches, Olympic champions and world champions representing the country in various sporting disciplines.

History
In 1870, by order of the Government of Norway, the Gymnastic Central School of Athletics and Weapon Use was established here. In 1915, this school was renamed the State Gymnastics School . On June 1, 1968, the organization received its present name and was awarded the status of a university. The first master's degree was released in 1973, the first rank of the doctor of philosophy was awarded in 1990.
