The Russian Mineralogical Society (RMO) is an all-Russian public organization, a voluntary scientific and public association of specialists conducting research in the field of geological and mineralogical sciences. The work of the Society is aimed at promoting the development of fundamental and applied areas of Earth sciences in Russia .

Content
History
January 7 ( 19 ), 1817 in the Mikhailovsky Castle in the apartment of L. I. Pansner , the constituent assembly of the Company was held. It was attended by 33 founders of the company [1] .
Officially, the formation of the company and its charter were approved by decree of Alexander I No. 26.920 of June 12 ( 24 ), 1817 [2] . The decree contained the following provision.
“The subject that this Society intends to do is Mineralogy in the whole space of this word. Our Earth, its atmosphere, all inorganic (non-ore) works of nature in the earth and on its surface are located, bringing these bodies into a systematic order, and therefore an accurate test of their properties, various relationships and actions of one on the other and mutual compounds, is real and even the possible use and testing of means to achieve this last goal, the collection and communication of new discoveries of foreign lands and notes on Mineralogical works, are essential objects of contemplation and processing of the Society as well. "
The company is the oldest mineralogical society in Russia [3] . From 1991 to 2004, the RMO was under the jurisdiction of the Russian Academy of Sciences . Since 2004, the Society is an all-Russian public organization.
During the formation of the Mineralogical Society, the “Mineral Cabinet” was created, which later turned into a museum of minerals , rocks and minerals, the collections of which were later transferred to the St. Petersburg Mining Institute , which since 1869 has been the seat of the presidium and the library of the society.

Activities
The society organizes scientific conferences and competitions. He takes part in research expeditions, carries out international scientific relations. When RMO there are 25 branches operating in all major cities and scientific centers of Russia.
The Russian Mineralogical Society is a member and one of the founders ( Madrid , April 8, 1958) of the International Mineralogical Association, uniting scientific societies and associations of geological and mineralogical profile from 37 countries of the world. In April 1993, RMO was admitted to the European Mineralogical Union at the Council of E. M. S. in Strasbourg .
