Biography
He was born on November 5, 1968 in Moscow in the family of native Muscovites, artists Dmitry Viktorovich and Irina Borisovna Kalinins [4] . Great-grandson of Archpriest Valentin Sventsitsky . Artist education.
In 1982-1986. studied at the Moscow Art School of the Russian Academy of Arts (MSHSH). In 1987-1989 served in the army . In 1993, in the cathedral of the Novospassky monastery, Patriarch Alexy II was ordained deacon , after which he served in the Church of the Savior with the Hand-made Image in the Andronicus Monastery .
On January 19, 1996 , on the Epiphany of the Lord , Patriarch Alexy II was ordained a priest in the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Yelokhovo .
In 1996-2001 he combined the ministry in the Savior Cathedral of the Andronikov Monastery with the obedience of a member of the commission on artistic decoration of the cathedral church of Christ the Savior in Moscow. He headed the coordination group of specialists - the daily working body of the commission. After his chairman, Metropolitan Juvenalia, resigned from the commission (due to disagreements on the materials of facade sculptures), Leonid Kalinin headed the commission on the artistic decoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior until Bishop Alexy (Frolov) was appointed to this position, during which he continued his obedience to the head of the working group and member commissions - until the end of all artwork in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. For "the great work of rebuilding the Cathedral of Christ the Savior" (Patriarch Alexy II), he was awarded the right to wear the proto-priestly cross.
He was a friend and confessor of the journalist Paul Khlebnikov .
In 1994 he defended his diploma at the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov in the sculpture class of Academician Oleg Komov .
On March 26, 2002, he was appointed rector of the Church of Clement Pope . From 2011 to 2015, he led the reconstruction of the temple [5]
In April 2006 he was elevated to the rank of archpriest .
From 1999 to 2003, under the direction of the Bishop of Mercury (Ivanov), he headed the re-creation of murals and interior at the Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York, USA, which received the status of the best building in the city in 2004. The murals of the cathedral were carried out by the brigade of Academician Evgeny Maximov [3] .
On January 1, 2015, Patriarch Kirill was appointed as the ancient guardian of the Moscow City Diocese. On April 16, 2016, by decision of the Holy Synod, he was appointed Chairman of the Expert Council on Church Art, Architecture and Restoration [6] .
December 7, 2017, at the meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts Leonid Kalinin was awarded the title of Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (PAX). Earlier, the initiative of the Academy was supported by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
