History
Polar Air Cargo was founded in 1993 as a joint venture between Southern Air Transport and GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS). Transportation began in June 1993 with charter transportation; later regular transport began.
In November 2001, Polar was acquired by Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (AAWW). Owners of the company: Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (51%) and DHL (49%). The company has 736 employees (as of March 2007). [one]
Flight Geography
Regular transportation
Polar operates regular freight shipments across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans to markets in Asia and the Middle East. There are also flights between Shanghai and Anchorage , Chicago , Los Angeles , Cincinnati and other cities in Europe and Asia.
Charter transportation
Polar Air Cargo also performs charter cargo transportation for any customer request, to any airport in the world capable of accepting Boeing 747 . Flights are operated on Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 747-8 aircraft.
