Biography
The artist’s son, raised in Lübeck , studied physics for several semesters. In 1959 he arrived in Berlin.
In 1961, he was arrested by the GDR authorities on the east side of the Berlin Wall when he tried to help his girlfriend from East Germany move to the West. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison, of which a little more than three served, after which he was released.
Involved in the filmmaking of Germany , shot documentaries. Since 1969, he constantly collaborated with Werner Herzog . He also worked with other major directors. He taught at the Ludwigsburg Film Academy and the Philippine Film Academy in Manila .
