Charles Santley is a British opera singer ( baritone ). Knight of the British Empire [2] .

Biography
In his youth, he sang in the choir, learned to play the violin. He made his debut as a soloist in Haydn 's oratorio " Creation of the World " in 1857 , where he was heard by Manuel Garcia , who invited the singer to study with him. He performed a lot, performing oratorios and arias from various operas. In 1859, he first performed on the opera stage in Meyerbeer 's Dinor .
In December 1907 he was knighted.
The author of several works on vocals and two books of memoirs.
