History

Company Development

Tuborg Brewery, 1900

Tuborg office in Hellerup (a suburb of Copenhagen )

The history of this beer dates back to 1873 , when Karl Frederick Tietgen built the first brewery in Copenhagen . It was brewed with a pilsner , which was called Tuborg, from the name of the place where this beer was brewed - Thuesborg [3] . Beer was successful in the Danish market not only because of its taste, but also because it was bottled in beer, something that had never been done in this country before. In 1880, the production of the Tuborg Green variety began.

In 1895, another well-known variety appeared - "Tuborg Gold" [4] .

In 1894, Tuborg promoted the merger of 11 Copenhagen breweries into one company, The United Breweries. The United Breweries became the main competitor to Carlsberg , the leading Danish brewing company in Denmark.

In 1903, Tuborg signed an agreement with Carlsberg on the separation of revenues and supplies - companies divided the market in half.

In 1970, the Danish breweries Carlsberg and Tuborg took over at Carlsberg A / S.

In 1981, Tuborg began brewing his beer in Hungary [2] .

Baltic Beverages Holding (BBH) was established in 1991 by Hartwall (Finland), Pripps (Sweden), Ringnes (Norway) ( Orkla industrial group). Baltic Beverages Holding was created specifically for investing in the beer industry in the countries of the former Soviet Union.

In 2000, Carlsberg bought shares in the Orkla breweries . The companies united their interests by creating the Carlsberg Breweries company (60% of the shares belonged to Carlsberg and 40% belonged to Orkla).

In 2002, Hartwall sold its share of BBH to British company Scottish & Newcastle (S&N). In 2004, Carlsberg purchased a 40% stake in Carlsberg Breweries from Orkl. The current owners of BBH are Carlsberg Breweries and Scottish & Newcastle, each of which owns a 50% stake in the holding [1] .

Today Tuborg is licensed in 25 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa [5] .

Development in Soviet and Post-Soviet Space

The supply of Tuborg beer to the USSR began in the late 60s of the XX century. In the 70-80s, Tuborg was distributed through a network of foreign exchange stores Birch .

Tuborg became the first Western licensed brand to be launched in Russia. Baltic Beverages Holding owns the production of Tuborg beer in the territory of the former USSR.

In 2000, Tuborg began production under license at the Vienna Brewery in St. Petersburg. 66% of the shares are owned by Sinebrychoff Ab , a subsidiary of Carlsberg Since 2004, the Vienna factory has also produced Tuborg draft beer in kegs.

In 2001, the production of Tuborg beer in Ukraine began at the Slavutich factory [2] .
