Biography
Born in the city of Bedzin (at that time the Kingdom of Poland of the Russian Empire , now Poland ). Since 1915 - a laborer in agriculture, then in metallurgy and mines. In 1922 he became a member of the Communist Youth League of Poland (KSMP), since 1923 - a member of the Communist Party of Poland . For his revolutionary activities, he was repeatedly arrested and spent in prison for over 11 years.
Since 1939 - in the USSR , participates in the organization of the Union of Polish Patriots and the Polish Army. In 1944 - 1945 - the chief of staff of partisans in Poland and the deputy commander of the Polish Army for political affairs. Deputy Politician of the 1st Warsaw Infantry Division of the Army Ludova. He had the rank of brigadier general.
After the end of World War II in 1945 - 1948, he was an authorized representative of the government in Silesia , then - governor of the Silesian-Dombrow Voivodeship . Since December 1948 he became a member of the Central Committee and Politburo of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers Party (PUWP). In 1949 - 1952 - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers.
November 20, 1952 became Chairman of the State Council of the Polish People’s Republic and retained this post until his death on August 7, 1964 . He died in Warsaw . He was buried at the Military Ponzki cemetery.
