The Kumo-Manych Canal is an irrigation canal in the Stavropol Territory of Russia , the construction of which was completed in 1965 [2] . The canal was laid along the Kumo-Manych depression , connecting the Kuma River of the Caspian Sea basin with the Vostochny Manych River , which also flows in the direction of the Caspian Sea, but dries along the way without flowing into the sea .

Modern Channel
The Kumo-Manych Canal begins at the villages of Levokumskoye and Novokumskiy on the Kuma River between the cities of Budennovsk and Neftekumsk in a small reservoir with coordinates , into which the Tersko-Kumsky channel flows. The latter was completed in 1958 to supply the system with water from the Terek River. [2] From here, the Kumo-Manych Canal runs in the north-east direction, and then in the north-west, flowing into the Chograisk reservoir near the dam of the hydroelectric complex on the East Manych River . Other projects
In June 2007, the Government of Kazakhstan made a proposal to Russia to build a deeper channel for sea vessels to pass from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea along the bottom of the Kumo-Manych depression . The Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan began research on possible options for its passage. [3]
