Some species of this genus, in particular Sorbaria sorbifolia , in the Russian-language literature were attributed to the genus Spiraeus [3] .

Etymology

The genus name comes from the Latin name of the genus Sorbus ( mountain ash ), since the leaves of many species of mountain ash are similar to the leaves of mountain ash .

Biological description

Deciduous shrubs , up to 3 meters tall. They form thickets due to their strong spring-throwing ability. Most species produce abundant root shoots, forming dense, very spectacular thickets.

Shoots are yellowish-gray, elbow-twisted.

Leaves are complex, pinnate, simple or double-blade.

The flowers are small, white or creamy-white, numerous, gathered in large conical pyramidal panicles.

Fruits - leaflets.

Types

According to The Plant List , the genus includes 5 species [4] :

  • Sorbaria grandiflora ( Sweet ) Maxim.
  • Sorbaria kirilowii ( Regel & Tiling ) Maxim. - Kirilov's Rowanberry
  • Sorbaria pallasii ( G.Don ) Pojark. - Pallas Rowanberry
  • Sorbaria sorbifolia ( L. ) A.Braun typus [2] - ryabinnik rybinolistny
  • Sorbaria tomentosa ( Lindl. ) Rehder - Fritt Fritters

The species status of Olga's Rowanberry ( Sorbaria olgae ) and Sugar-leaved Siberian Grouse ( Sorbaria rhoifolia ) is undefined.

Economic value and application

In culture as ornamental plants from the middle of the XVIII century. Growing fast. The soil is undemanding, but better development is achieved on well-drained and moist soils. Take out a little shading. Abundant flowering, up to 30 days. Propagated by seeds, root and green cuttings, cut immediately after flowering, offspring. Seeds are sown in spring without pre-treatment on wet soil. Use in single and group plantings, to create edges and underbrush, to fix slopes and ravines. Valued for long-term flowering and early deployment of leaves. In central Russia cultivate the fowl of Felted , treelike , Pallas and ash-leaved [5] .
