Qualification (qualifying tournament) of the 15th World Volleyball Championship for men was held from January 28 to September 2, 2001 with the participation of 61 national teams. 22 tickets to the final tournament of the world championship were played (11 from Europe , 4 from Asia , 3 from North, Central America and the Caribbean , 2 from South America , 2 from Africa ). Teams of Argentina (host country) and Italy (winner of the previous World Cup ) were exempted from qualification.
