History
For the first time, the IRL race at the BMP was discussed in 2007, when the league held its test races here. [3] It was assumed that these tests will serve as one of the factors in the inclusion or non-inclusion of the stage in Birmingham in the calendar-2009. In July 2008, IRL released a calendar for next season, including two new races - in Long Beach and Toronto , while Barber has remained out of it for now. [4] However, Birmingham officials claimed that BMP was one of the first on the waiting list for 2010. [four]
In March 2009, Barber was selected for a full three-day test session of the series. [5] Officials continued to claim that they wanted to hold a race here - not far from the American branch of Honda (the engine manufacturer for the series) (in Lincoln ). [5]
A window in the calendar for the stage was formed after the break of relations between the series and the Detroit Grand Prix . [1] [6] Initially, Zoom Motorsports could hold the stage already in 2009, but later it was decided to conduct the first stage only in 2010. [7] [1] Announcing the stage, IRL emphasized that one of the main factors in choosing Birmingham was the stage’s support from the city and state authorities. [one]
